Customer Rating: Summary: Talk is Cheap Comment: Funny, talated, hopeful and uplifting as the author Dan Savage was the focus of my radio call-in show "Talk Is Cheap," where we discussed his own story of being married in Canada. Savage has managed to put humor on this very real subject with genuine universal appeal. As to why same-sex couples deserve equality under the laws. The focus of my call-in show was; "why do gay men marry straight women? What forces them in the closet?" As you can imagine, the show got heated at times but I was able to relate to many chapters on love, sex, marriage and family.
Dan, if you are reading this review. I would love you to appear on a future show.
Be safe,
Dennis J. Schleicher
author of an explosive and controversial memoir
Forbidden Love with a Married Man: E-mail Diaries
Customer Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fantastic. Comment: I absolutely adore this book. I hadn't been very familiar with Dan Savage before reading this but, now I am obsessed with him. This book truly describes the best and worst things about getting married while crossing all boundaries. You can relate to it if you are young or old, gay or straight, insane or rationale. TWO THUMBS UP! I can't wait to read the rest of his work.
Customer Rating: Summary: Most fun reading in a long time! Comment: I found myself laughing throughout the book. Very snappy writing and a story that I could identify with within my own relationship. The story echos today's society and the struggle (conflict) that a lot of relationships go through whether gay or straight. I think I loved the reactions of his son the best. A must read for anyone conflicted about marriage or a commitment ceremony.
Customer Rating: Summary: The Commitment: Yes, No, Maybe, Well, I Don't Know... Comment: This one I liked; it was fun reading about D.J. and good to see he has done so well with his Dads. The issues with his mom made my heart ache, and I wondered how that would progress over time. But the theme of the book - commitment - made my head ache. Back and forth, back and forth with the marriage thing. Dan makes the angst sound funny, although it wasn't at the time, I am sure. Still, in the end - I never quite got the point. It was entertaining reading for sure. Dan Savage could write a book about brushing his teeth and it would be funny. It's just with so few heterosexuals caring to get married and half of those who do divorcing, why the yen to do this straight-y thing?
Customer Rating: Summary: Same-Sex Marriage Comment: Take a closer look at the issue of same-sex marriage with this examination and criticism of both sides of the debate.

In a time when much of the country sees red whenever the subject of gay marriage comes up, Dan Savage—outspoken author of the column "Savage Love"— makes it personal.
Dan Savage’s mother wants him to get married. His boyfriend, Terry, says "no thanks" because he doesn’t want to act like a straight person. Their six-year-old son DJ says his two dads aren’t "allowed" to get married, but that he’d like to come to the reception and eat cake. Throw into the mix Dan’s straight siblings, whose varied choices form a microcosm of how Americans are approaching marriage these days, and you get a rollicking family memoir that will have everyone—gay or straight, right or left, single or married—howling with laughter and rethinking their notions of marriage and all it entails.
