Customer Rating: Summary: Classic Clint Eastwood! Comment: This classic Clint Eastwood western is the best of the genre. Requested by my adult son, the flick turned out to be a great gift.
Customer Rating: Summary: A great western Comment: From prolific actor / director Clint Eastwood, The Outlaw Josey Wales is one of the best westerns of the 70's. Utilizing his usual group of actors during this period, Director Eastwood manages to bring to life one of the most realistic westerns ever put on the screen.
I also should point out the great performance from actor John Verron, (Dean Wormer from Animal House) is one of the best performances of his career.
Customer Rating: Summary: great for clint fans Comment: My husband is a fervent fan of Clint and old Westerns. This is a must have for him. If you just like movies, it is still at least a 4 star so you can enjoy it with your fervant fan.
Customer Rating: Summary: Arguably the best Comment: I'm the kind of guy that can (and has) had conversations with people about the best movies ever made in certain genres. Any time the discussion moves to westerns, most people I have had this discussion with agree, this is one of, if not the absolute best western ever made. There are lots of classics, and lots of great choices for that title, but even if this movie is not your choice for #1, it's probably in the top 5. Terrific characters, terrific cast, great story. The only weak spot is Sandra Locke, although this is one of her better performances. Unfortunately, that's not saying much IMO. All in all, a classic, and a great movie, even if you don't normally like westerns.
Customer Rating: Summary: Outlaw Josey Wales Comment: This is truly one of Clint Eastwood best country movies. Great action and even better one liners.

Clint Eastwood fired the original director, Philip Kaufman (The Right Stuff), and took over the reins of this project himself. He may have had a point: this brutal, thoughtful western, a near-tragedy about a Civil War veteran whose past comes looking for him, is probably Eastwood's most mature frontier drama prior to the Oscar winning Unforgiven. Hoping to build a quiet life in a cooperative community of settlers, Eastwood's Wales blames himself when his enemies attack the homestead, and he has to revert to his warrior instincts to help fend off the threat. The jittery intensity of Sondra Locke (who would be Mrs. Eastwood, at least for a while), and the screen-filling charisma of the late Chief Dan George harmonize beautifully with Eastwood, who had finally figured out how to add depth and texture to his stock-in-trade Man of Steel persona. This one may be too short on action to satisfy fans of Eastwood's Dirty Harry films, or of the Italian westerns he made with Sergio Leone, but it's an honorable effort. --David Chute
