Customer Rating: Summary: This is the BEST version to watch. Accept no substitutes ! :) Comment: If youre going to watch any version of JTTCOTE - this is the one. Great cast(James Mason,Pat Boone)acting, and a nice slow build up to when they get to the center of the Earth. I will say for some - that the first part of the movie might be slow for some, but stick with this and you will be thoroughly entertained with great effects, acting and imagination. It is over 2 hours long - but you have to wait until they take the journey - but it is worth it. From all the strange things they see inside the Earth, the heat, water, drama as they slowly go down to the center and then the dinosaurs appear and other wonders. A superior fantasy that has the atmosphere that only a film from this era can have. Give it a try & it will ultimately deliver. Jules Verne would probably give it 2 thumbs up :)
Customer Rating: Summary: Great movie Comment: This movie two hours and twelve minutes long and was released on December 16, 1959. This movie has in it Alan Napier - Alfred from the 1960 Batman television series. Basically Sir Oliver Lindenbrook is given a rock by his student Alec McEwen. He finds that this rock might lead him to the center of the earth and the adventures begins. The special effects are no Steven Spielberg, but they are okay for that period. The story rolls right along and there are no side stories for distraction. If you are a Jules Verne fan, then you may like this film adaptation.
Customer Rating: Summary: superb movie Comment: This is one of the greatest movies of all time. It is truly a must see. Right up there w/ Gone W/ the Wind, Zhivago, et al. My only complaint is Fox has done a bad job w/ quality control concerning this DVD. The 2003 manufacture of this DVD freezes up, skips, and does not play smoothly. It is a shame to manufacture crumby DVD'S for such a truly classic movie. I am writing this review in the hope someone will remedy the situation.

James Mason plays Professor Oliver Lindenbrook, a scientist hoping to find the world's core in this 1959 adaptation of the Jules Verne novel. He leads his unusual party on an expedition to the center of the earth, by way of a volcano in Iceland. On the way, they encounter enormous mushrooms and giant prehistoric monsters. Produced by Michael Todd with then-spectacular special effects, the story was modernized to 1950s sensibilities. Mason gives this class, while Arlene Dahl and Diane Baker are the romantic interests. And Pat Boone is more palatable than you might expect as a secondary lead. You can watch this with your children and not be bored, and they will surely love it. --Rochelle O'Gorman
