Customer Rating: Summary: only good at parts with James Dean.. Comment: this movie is 4 hours long. it is a boring story, and only good at the parts with James Dean in them. but other then the parts with James Dean in them, this movie is really long and dull.
Customer Rating: Summary: GIANT Comment: I love this movie, it is one of my favorite movies off all times. This is my second copy.
Customer Rating: Summary: I don't know where to start with this... Comment: But I'll try. Taylor's character meets Hudson's character; they fall in love, marry, and go off to Texas to tend his ranch. Dean's character is the outcast who works for them who later becomes a millionaire when he strikes oil. The couple have kids, the kids grow up and marry, and Hopper's character marries a Mexican woman. They have a kid, and the wife and kid have many problems in society, along with the rest of the family. There's death, sadness, and everyone ages 25-30 years. It's really a long soap opera, not an epic like it's portrayed to be. It was good most of the time, but some parts were disturbing and uncomfortable to watch. All the characters are acted well, and it's worth seeing at least once.
Customer Rating: Summary: the DVD of the movie, "Giant" Comment: I really enjoyed watching once again the movie, "Giant." Equally as well I enjoyed the second disc which was largely comments from cast members and very interesting stories along with interesting shots of various things at the time when the movie was in production. I have right now loaned it to a very good friend; he hasn't returned it yet. He and I saw a comment on TV recently about James Dean, and I mentioned to him that I would loan him my DVD. He may want to keep it. I am not a big DVD person, but this one is about my favorite, among my small collection. JM
Customer Rating: Summary: Giant DVD to Match a Giant Movie! Comment: Everything about this movie just like Texas is huge. From the more than 3 hour film length to the scope of the screenplay which covers a span of a few decades to track the growth of a state of the union as well as that of the family life and the world view of the Benedicts. Bick Benedict takes a wife from the North i.e. Virginia which provides life back at his home ranch in the South a little more spice than even he had imagined.
I enjoyed the way the film tackled issues such as racial, social and gender discrimination throughout and I was hit by the irony of how James Dean's character Jet Rink himself an early victim of social discrimination could in turn when he eventually makes it really big practice hypocritically racial discrimination himself. This is a truly epic film with excellent acting by all the cast and excellent background settings including a masterful effort at directing by George Stevens.
This dvd version is also a treat for fans with bonus features galore with documentaries and especially interviews of the cast which I found very entertaining. The picture quality is also very good with hardly any noticeable flaws although the sound quality while good could be enhanced further. Should this film ever make it to Blu-ray, I hope they will take the opportunity to improve upon the sound quality options to include Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround versions as well. As it is though, this is still a worthy dvd of this very good film.
Recommended.

Giant is a movie of huge scale and grandeur in which three generations of land-rich Texans love swagger connive and clash in a saga of family strife racial bigotry and conflict between cattle barons and newly rich oil tycoons. It's also one of the most beloved works of director George Stevens who won an Academy AwardO* for this film one of 10 Oscar nominations** the film earned.Running Time: 201 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA UPC: 012569706903
