Customer Rating: Summary: Old style high quality and 19th-century customer relations... Comment: Definitely concur with the observations of other buyers. Wald is a company caught in a time-warp of several centuries ago. Certainly can appreciate the good, heavy-duty quality of the materials. But unless one enjoys mechanical puzzles, challenges in customizing and installing metal components, it would be advisable for a buyer to purchase this through a bike shop or at least take it to one/someone who has the proper tools: vice (for bending), proper-size bolts, drill and bits, etc. Wald obviously has a mindset focus on the traditional cycling enthusiast-DIY'er. It'll be interesting to see if they enlarge their thinking to include installation instructions for the average bicycle rider. In their defense, it would be unfair to expect them to include/ship every different size bolt and nut, or configuration of brace-support for different brand bicycle frames.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great deal for the money, but hardware and design outdated Comment: I was pleasantly surprised to find how sturdy this rack is for the price. The gloss black finish is superb and looks durable.
However, this rack looks like it was designed 40 years ago and hasn't been updated since. The mounting hardware is designed for 1960s bikes. It's English, not metric - if you have a bike made in the last 20 years, you'll probably have to go out and get metric mounting hardware. I don't know what the bracket that's supposed to attach the front of the rack to the frame was designed to fit with, but it doesn't fit the braze-ons or mounting holes on new bikes. I had to use an old clamp from a long-lost light to attach it to my seatpost.
The reflector holder on the back is probably useless - I'm unaware of any rear flasher that will mount on it. (It was designed for the old reflectors with a short bolt in the back. Haven't seen one of those for years.)
C'mon, Wald, it wouldn't take much effort or expense to update your products. Get on it!
Customer Rating: Summary: Well-made and utilitarian Comment: It seems well made and is nicely painted. It is a good vlaue for the money
Customer Rating: Summary: Does not fit a cruiser bike. Comment: This bike rack is not wide enough to fit over the fender of a cruiser bike.
Customer Rating: Summary: Adjustable bike rack Comment: The rack is fine, now that it's installed. I had to go to the hardware store (twice!) before I had the right nuts and bolts to attach it. A little pack of hardware would be handy. And a little sheet of instructions, though that's not essential.
