Customer Rating: Summary: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Comment: This is a very different change from past Microsoft Office editions and takes a bit of getting use to where everything is. However, once you get used to it, there are a lot of new features that are very useful. Being able to sort by color is great, since I like color coding my input. I am still in the learning stages. I did have the Beta version before it came out and found this product very useful and productive. The only major problem is paying for these updates every few years, and the prices keep going up.
Customer Rating: Summary: Chaos Comment: My explanation for the appearance and utility of the new Word 2007 is that a group of programmers who had never used Word or WordPerfect were told to create a word processor with certain features. (I suspect that foremost among such features were "shiny" and "flashy.") I would liken the result to the group of blind men, each of whom who touched one place on an elephant and then were asked to describe the animal. The saving grace is the one customizable toolbar on which you can place shortcuts for most features you actually want to use. Without that toolbar, every step you take must be preceded by multiple clicks through multiple menus which have been sorted according to parameters which remain a mystery to me.
Despite much effort, I have yet to figure out how to append labels to a document without destroying the formatting of either the document or the labels. I have tried inserting the labels as an object and as text, with every kind of section and page break in between. No success.
Customer Rating: Summary: philstaf Comment: OK, but like other Microsoft products, such as Vista, it's less intuitive than the previous version.
Customer Rating: Summary: Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Comment: It is easy to learn. It just takes using it a while to find everything you want. It also updates your old Office files to the newer version. Our family is very happy with it, especially since it can be put on up to 3 computers. Great price.
Customer Rating: Summary: Another fix for broken spell check in Outlook Express after installation Comment: I like the new version of Word, although it took a while to find certain features.
The one really annoying thing was that after installing it the only option I had for a spell check language in Outlook Express was French, something that has been mentioned before in the reviews. My last version was Word 2000 on another computer so installing the older dictionary from 2003 was not an option.
I did some checking in the Microsoft forums and found that while there is no current fix for the problem through Microsoft (they are supposed to working on hotfix for it) you can download a free stand alone spell checker for Outlook Express. (I made sure my internet security program was up to date first) It figured it should be safe since it was actually recommended by a Microsoft tech person on one of several posts recommending this as the fix.
The download is available from [...]. Look for Mail Utilities > Spell Checker for OE. I'm happy to report that after downloading and installing it I can now spellcheck in English and both English and French are listed as available languages in OE.
