Summary: There's a reason Susan Polgar put her name on these...
Comment: I found this item a while back, placed it in my shopping cart and then didn't purchase it. When I went back later it was out of stock, so I purchased it directly from the House of Staunton, paying $19.00 plus shipping & handling. I wish I had been more patient, because a few days later Amazon had these back in stock at a better price and w/ a board to boot!

Now, as to the product itself, I'm really, really pleased. Yes, these are plastic, but they're not the little plastic pieces you played w/ as a kid. They're a nice size (3.75"), feel sturdy when grasped and they're weighted in the bottom so they won't accidentally tip over. Also, each piece has a felted bottom.

This item comes w/ a vinyl board also from Staunton's. Although I can't speak to the quality of it, since the set I purchased from Staunton's didn't come w/ a board, if it's made by Staunton, I have to believe it's nice.

If you're new to chess (as I am) or if you're purchasing this for the beginning player, you won't be disappointed.
