Summary: One of the best MLB games around
Comment: MLB 2007: The Show is a great game that I recommend to anyone that is interested in purchasing sports video games, or baseball video games in particular. "The Show" is one of the top MLB games on the market and you'd be hard pressed to find something better. There are many features unique to this series that make it a must buy for gamers.
Graphics/Animation-The graphics in MLB 07 are not as good as ones in the 2K series, but are still pretty good. Ballparks are realistic and the players resemble their real life counterparts with life-like stances and tendencies.
Controls-The controls are probably one of the best part of this series. Despite the fact that this game does not have some of the amazing graphics of 2K, the controls are much better and easier to figure out.
Overall the game plays pretty smoothly. You can choose some of the features of the game such as game difficulty, HR camera, guess pitch, and broadcast presentations that makes that game unique to your tastes. Career mode is my favorite part of the game as you create your own player and get called up from the minors to "The Show" as a real player would.
Bottom line: I give MLB 07 8 out of 10

Summary: It's a great game!
Comment: Though initially a little frustrating for me to learn how to properly hit and pitch (the first game was not a pretty score), eventually this has become one of my favorite games. It's pretty lifelike for PS2 graphics. Almost all aspects of the game are thought out.

Summary: Fantastic baseball game
Comment: This game is one of the best baseball games I have played over the years. It has a great presentation that feels like you are actually watching a real game. The announcers are right on and do not feel canned and corny. The game mechanics are solid and the game is polished and very close to real. My son loves this game and we play often and enjoy this game more than any other on the pc2.

Summary: Career mode
Comment: Really like the career mode, although the base running isn't all that fun. I like being able just to take part in the plays that my created player is involved in. Hitting and fielding are good, being on base just takes too long. Sometimes I try to steal just so I can get it over with. Other than that, I really like it. Although I was a little ticked when the Sox cut me after hitting .350 in AAA!

Summary: In retrospect, and waiting for 2008
Comment: While waiting for MLB the Show 2008 to come out for the PS3, I'm hoping that a few gameplay changes will be made to the 07 version. Having played a full 162 game season with MLB The Show 2007 (on a PS2), I'd like to offer the following retrospective pros and cons- mainly from the gameplay point of view. Its my guess that most folks who buy sports video games every year (particularly baseball) are most interested in a game that plays like the real thing (including the stats). So without going into all the gameplay modes,etc that MLB 2007 offers, here are my observations regarding the GAME, as far as how satisfying it is to play (obviously, it passes this test overall, since I did play a full preseason and then a 162 game regular season, plus playoffs through to the World Series....which I managed to win with my home team Chicago White Sox, btw):
1- Pitching: the best pitcher-batter interface of any game currently out there, and the addition of the catcher "calling the game" is a nice touch. However, it still is a little too easy to consistently throw strikes, which has been generally true of every pc/console baseball game I've ever played over the last 10 years. Even with a lot of slider adjustments to make control of pitches more difficult, I rarely had games where I would unintentionally walk more than 1-2 batters. This may just be a fine-tuning point, and maybe the developers just don't feel that walks are all that exciting, but they are part of the game. And believe me, with the game tied and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, it would add a lot of sweat and excitement to the game if you were having trouble locating your pitches. I hope MLB 2008 improves on this.
2- Fielding: main beef is that the throw meter doesn't seem to do anything. I'd like to see varying difficulties of a throw meter, based on the player's actual fielding percentage, that required you to use the controller buttons more exactly, in order to make the play. As it is on MLB 2007, fielding is rather perfunctory. Could be way more challenging.
3- Hitting: again, even with a lot of slider adjustments, I found it rare to be able to coax many walks out of the AI pitching. Maybe I'm just an impatient hitter, but after playing about a million of these sort of games, I don't think so. Also seems to be rather hard to hit doubles- much less than expected from real statistics. No major problems in this area, however- minor issues only, that probably only hard-core baseball fans would care about.
4- AI: would like to see a little more adaptive intelligence during each game on the AI's part- like in pitch selection to a hitter who is tearing it up (ie: pitching around a hot hitter, etc), and also in the AI's management of their pitchers- still see relievers left in the game for several innings for no reason, even when plenty of bullpen alternatives are still available. Again, perhaps only a minor flaw, but a flaw that should be easily fixable, nonetheless.
5- Baserunning: still the most frustrating aspect of this game version, in my opinion. I'd like to see a few more choices for baserunner control than just all-or-none, For instance, and again based on each player's baserunning abilities, have the AI control most baserunning decisions, but allow you to override any single decision while the play is in progress (ie: try to take the extra base when the AI would be otherwise holding the runner, etc).
6- Animations/sound/commentary: not strictly speaking a gameplay issue, but definitely an aspect of the game that can add a lot to the fun of it all....I'd like to see first and third base coaches, and have their signals help you make baserunning decisions (ie: better NOT run through a stop sign, etc). I'd like to see catchers who actually throw away their masks when going after foul pop-ups. I'd like to see more crowd detail, and some aspect of the home field advantage that affects how your players perform. And I'd like to see the commentary change AT LEAST A LITTLE, from year to year. I figure this would just be too much to hope for, but wouldn't it be cool to have the announcers be the real ones for each home team's games? Now that would be a nice touch.
Overall, this is a GREAT game- but it seems to me that with a little more attention to the gameplay details, it could be an all-time classic.
Hopefully MLB The Show 2008 will be just that.

MLB 07: The Show delivers online baseball action the way it should be. The franchise now introduces the all-new Road to The Show mode, enabling gamers to play both offense and defense from the created player's perspective.
