Customer Rating: Summary: Odd design; couldn't get it to work Comment: There is clearly a need for a cradle for the UTStarcom 6800-series phone. Unlike the 6700-series, this one doesn't come with a cradle out of the box. That need has been left to third-party providers to fill.
This is one of the least-expensive 6800 cradles on the market. It comes with a USB cable permanently affixed to the back. A separate AC charger is also included in the box, although it's not necessary to plug in both the USB and AC adapter, as the USB provides power from the PC.
The product photo is a little misleading, in that the phone sits completely upright in the cradle (90° parallel to the desktop), not at an angle. Unfortunately, that's not an ideal design for using the stylus while the phone is cradled.
This is not a cradle that you can just drop your phone into: The male mini-USB connector that fits into the bottom of the phone is a tight fit that requires you to pick up the base and "eyeball" the connection. Admittedly, half the problem is the 6800 itself, with its small connector. This was a problem with the 6700-series and its cradle, but the issue is worse with the 6800. Making a secure mate required several attempts each time I tried it.
My main complaint is that the cradle didn't allow me to sync with my PC. I have Microsoft's Windows Mobile Device Center software installed, and I'm able to sync using the USB cable that came with the phone, but I can't sync with this cradle. My phone was receiving power and trying to sync to my Windows Vista PC, but it never actually made the connection. Bargaincell sent me a replacement unit, but that one also didn't sync. (And if the product won't let you sync your phone, then what's the point?)
Poor design, the inability to cradle my phone with one hand, and a product that doesn't work. I recommend looking elsewhere.
