Summary: Looking for a cockpunch?
Comment: This show has absolutely no redeeming value to it, except that there are a whole lot of big fake boobies bouncing around. It is not clever. It is not funny. The mangled versions of music we love are not art. I love David Duchovney and Mulder like any young woman. I love boobies and clever comedy like any young woman. But this. show. is. completely. stupid.
There it is.

Summary: Duchovny X-cels in this X-cellent and seXy show
Comment: **Ok, forgive the title. I am just such a huge X-Files fan, I couldn't help myself.**
As a major Mulder fan, I love David Duchovny. I was a little skeptical of "Californication" at first. I thought it might be one of those T and A shows for men --with no substance. But I quickly fell in LOVE with this melancholy yet funny, sexy, sweet show. I even love the artsy and moody (no pun intended) opening shots and music.
I always knew Duchovny had range X-ceeding beyond Mulder, which he proved in the movie "Kalifornia" that he made years ago with Brad Pitt. Duchovny has often shown his sense of humor too--even on very dark episodes of X-Files.
But in "Californication" Duchovny really makes Hank Moody come to life. You love him even as he self destructs. As a woman, I can understand and identify the desire of all the women around him wanting to make things all better for him, even if for just one night.
The poignant relationship between Hank and Karen is achingly heartbreaking at times, especially for those of us who know that feeling all too well--the feeling of yearning for "once upon a time."
The show resembles "Sex and the City". I can't help but notice the similarities between Californication and SATC. Some are obvious, like the fact Duchovny was in both shows. And that actor Evan Handler was a regular character in both shows, as well. Also, Hank is a writer, like Carrie. Both titles refer to the act of intercourse. Both Hank and Carrie reflect on relationships and write about them as they go through certain issues.
Is "Californication" the male LA version of SATC's female NY version? Who knows, who cares. Both shows are excellent and even in their similarities, they are very original and so well written and witty. Kudos.

Summary: Warning: Californication has Sex, Drugs, and Intelligence.
Comment: "A morning of awkwardness is far better than a night of loneliness."--Hank Moody

The fact that Family First has called for a boycott of this Showtime series for its depiction of sex, drugs, alcohol, and "innuendo" is reason enough to experience it. Created by Tom Kapinos (Dawson's Creek) and produced by Scott Winant (My So-Called Life; thirtysomething), Californication stars David Duchovny (The X-Files) as 30-something novelist, Hank Moody, whose move to LA and writer's slump complicate his relationships with his ex-girlfriend, Karen van der Beek (Natascha McElhone), and their 12-year-old daughter, Rebecca "Becca" Moody (Madeleine Martin). Hank has written three best-selling novels, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, and God Hates Us All (all Slayer album titles), but now suffers from a case of writer's block. Although he is also a sex-addicted, self-destructive cad, who has a thing for hookers, surfer girls, and hot nuns alike, Hank is always a likeable character. "Happy endings may get a bad rap, but they do happen," he lovingly advises his daughter. "And when they do, they're just as true as the unhappy ones." There are several things that make Californication such a great show: its dark comedy, clever dialogue, strong performances, edgy storylines, and great music. The series soundtrack features music by the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Joe Strummer, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Foo Fighters, The Doors, Steve Earle, Death Cab For Cutie, and Warren Zevon. Season One consists of twelve episodes:

1. Pilot
2. Hell-A Woman
3. The Whore of Babylon
4. Fear And Loathing At The Fundraiser
5. LOL
6. Absinthe Makes The Heart Grow Fonder
7. Girls, Interrupted
8. California Son
9. Filthy Lucre
10. The Devil's Threesome
11. Turn The Page
12. The Last Waltz

Comment: I enjoyed watching this series. I found it very intertaining and I could
relate to the storyline. I can't wait to watch Season Two.

Editorial Reviews:

Sophisticated and unique this comedy centers on novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) who struggles to raise his 13-year-old daughter while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend. His obsession with truth-telling and self destructive behavior -- drinks drugs and relationships -- are both destroying and enriching to his career.System Requirements:Running Time: 340 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: NR UPC: 097368920941 Manufacturer No: 892094
